“It is important to quickly expand the AIIMS network of institutes and super-specialty hospitals to every corner of the country. The world’s health sector has learned a lot from the world’s worst pandemic in 100 years… It is critical for AIIMS, medical colleges, and even super specialty institutions like AIIMS to swiftly expand its network to every nook and cranny of the country”, the PM said.

He also stated that India is expanding its network of AIIMS from six to more than 22. Over 170 new medical colleges have been established in the last 6-7 years, with more than 100 additional medical colleges under construction.

In his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted that the number of undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats has increased to 1.40 lakh, up from 82,000 in 2014.
