Dhanbad, Oct 8: Tata Steel’s Jharia Division has set up two skill development centres at Jamadoba and Sijua in its leased hold area, for providing quality education to the youth for augmenting their employment opportunities.

The centres will run in collaboration with NIIT Foundation, a premier non-profit implementing organisation that focuses on providing employability skills to the youth of the country.

Sanjay Rajoria, General Manager (GM) at Tata Steel Jharia Division said that through this initiative, local youth in the age group of 12 to 25 will gain IT training for three months. Apart from this, the skill development centre will also provide a six-month programme on spoken English for different levels of students enabling them to face the challenging demands of industry. “Training will be provided in spoken English and Advanced Diploma in Computer Applications (ADCA),” he said.

In addition to these two centres, plans of opening a couple more centres in and around Jamadoba to cover more youths are in the bag.

“There is no skill development centre in the region to provide basic skill training to youth. We want to ensure that youth of the region, through these centers, improve their skill in communication and technical understanding,” said Sanjay Rajoria while inaugurating the centres.

Narendra Gupta, Chief of Sijua group, Tata Steel Jharia Division and Debashis Banerjee, Chief (human resource business partner) Jharia Division, were also present as the chief guest at Jamadoba centre respectively.

Rajoria said that the aim is to empower youths through skilling programmes to gain employment and enable them to lead productive and dignified lives. More than 100 students from the nearby areas will take training in the centre.

Unit Head of Tata Steel Foundation Jharia Division, Rajesh Kumar coordinated the inaugural function. Col. Bhawani Singh Nirvan, head (Administration), Jharia Division and Santosh Mahato, Regional Secretary of Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS) were also present on the occasion.
