Jharkhand Assembly Pays Tribute to Departed Leaders, Martyrs and Accident Victims with Two-Minute Silence

Ranchi: On the first day of the Monsoon Session, the Jharkhand Assembly brought forward a condolence motion, paying tribute to leaders and prominent public figures who passed away since the last session, martyred soldiers, and victims of various accidents, with all members observing a two-minute silence in their memory.

Former Ministers and MLAs Remembered in the House

The House remembered former Transport and Civil Aviation Minister and ex-MLA of Gomia, Madhav Lal Singh, along with former Animal Husbandry Minister and ex-Dhanbad MLA Mannan Mallick. Tributes were also paid to former MLAs Beni Prasad Gupta and Hari Ram, former Mining Minister Lakshman Ram, and former Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy.

Tributes Extended to Notable National Figures

Several other prominent personalities were also remembered in the House, including Dr. D.Y. Patil, Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, singer Asha Bhosle, poet Bashir Badr, Subhash Kashyap, H.K. Dua, Teejan Bai, Jaspal Rana, cricketer Gopinath, Khortha litterateur Suresh Vishwakarma, and Jharkhand movement activists Krishna Kumar Mahto and Damu Bandra.

Martyrs and Disaster Victims Also Honoured

The House paid tribute to soldiers martyred in Jammu and Kashmir and Manipur, as well as those who lost their lives in the Udhampur road accident, the Lucknow fire incident, floods in Assam, and students who died by suicide following the NEET exam controversy. The Jharkhand government’s contribution of Rs 3 crore in assistance for Assam’s flood victims was also noted during the session.

Mandu MLA Raises Concerns Over Local Accidents

During the discussion, Mandu MLA Nirmal Kumar raised the issue of road accidents, elephant attacks, lightning strikes and mine collapses in his constituency, stating that several people had lost their lives in these incidents, and urged the government to provide financial assistance to the affected families.

House Concludes with Prayers and Silent Tribute

The condolence motion concluded with all members offering prayers for the peace of the departed souls, standing at their seats and observing a two-minute silence as a mark of respect.
