Ranchi, Nov 30: A total of 250 women were examined during the “Mega Women’s Health Camp” organized under the joint aegis of IMA Jharkhand and the Health Department of Jharkhand in Ranchi.
In the camp, all the females coming to the camp were examined by the team of Dr Kanika Gupta, a renowned gynaecologist from Max Super Specialty Hospital, Delhi and 40 government gynaecologists of Jharkhand.
Iron, folic acid and calcium tablets for one month were distributed free of cost to all the women coming to the camp. Kit 2 and Kit 6 tablets were also distributed to the women suffering from leucorrhoea, ie white discharge from the genitalia.
Out of the 250 patients, 8 women were found to have a cervical polyp, 1 woman was found to have cervical cancer stage 3 and 18 women were found to have cervical pre-cancer. 40% of the women who came to the camp were found to have genital infections.
Sadar Hospital on the 9th of every month, under the Prime Minister’s Safe Motherhood Assurance Scheme, with the help of Sahiya’s will identify symptomatic and high-risk category women to Sadar Hospital. After which they will be screened via colposcope and if needed, treatment with cryo will also be done.
The President of Women’s Doctors Wing, IMA Jharkhand Dr Bharti Kashyap said that 11 out of 23 Sadar Hospitals of Jharkhand have cervical cancer tests and treatment machines.
“If we complete the screening of 6% of women with high-risk category and symptomatic of the population of women of reproductive potential, then we will catch cervical cancer at a pre-cancerous stage and can be cured by cryo treatment,” Kashyap said.
“In this way, we will be able to stop cervical cancer in our state in one year provided that there is a continuous review of screening going on in government hospitals across the state every month,” Kashyap further added.
Health Minister Banna Gupta said that everybody should understand the importance of a mother’s womb as it is very important to save mothers and sisters.
“Relationship with men is a major cause of cervical cancer and it is the duty of men to get the women of the house checked at the right time,” Gupta said.
Health Minister Banna Gupta and National I.M.A. Chairman Dr J A Jayalal inaugurated the camp.
