Ranchi, Dec.10: The Ranchi police have failed to make any headway in probing an FIR lodged by the State Human Rights Commission against Raj Hospital owner and CMO on November 24 at Hindpiri police station.
“Investigation is still going on,” said officer-in-charge (OC) of Hindpiri police station, Gyan Ranjan Kumar, when contacted to know about the police action in the matter of human right violation brought into his notice through an FIR by the human rights commission.
An insider supported OC Kumar saying expecting action in just 16 days after registration of an FIR is over expectation whether the matter be a case of human rights violation or anything else.
“The number of officers at the police station is limited. Apart from this, the working conditions are also not good. It is inhumane. Surrounded by vehicles seized from criminal accidents, the police station appears more like a dumping yard than a place to deal with different cases including violation of human rights. There is no space for parking vehicles. Breathing fresh air is a challenge. During the rainy season, when seepage starts, staying at the police station becomes difficult,” the official said justifying the delay.
Under Secretary Sunil Kumar Jha had registered the FIR after the human right commission of the state did a thorough probe in the matter of human right violation having taken place at Raj Hospital in March 2019.
The case arose after the husband of Puja Devi, admitted on March 29, 2019, died at Raj Hospital due to lack of treatment. The situation came when the hospital asked the lady to deposit Rs 1.5 lakh cash for treatment of her husband who had severe heart attack during treatment in the hospital and the poor lady instead of depositing the case offered Ayushmaan Card, which the hospital refused to accept.
After the husband of the lady died, the hospital also showed reluctance in handing over the body. The hospital handed over the body of the husband to the widow only when she somehow managed to pay Rs 51000 to the hospital.
The lady informed about the incident to the Jharkhand Human Rights Commission for appropriate action sharing her traumatic experience that she had from admission of her husband for treatment in the said hospital to taking husband’s body after his death. The Commission before registration of the FIR also sought a report of the director (health services) of the state in the matter.
