Ranchi, Jan.3: A super specialty hospital running in the Jharkhand capital, Bhagawan Mahavir Medica SuperSpecialty Hospital, taking initiative to ensure the timely treatment to kidney patients from primary level today imparted training to as many as 32 doctors from six districts of the state and have decided to train doctors of other districts in coming four months in turn.

Chairman of Medica group of hospitals, Dr Alok Roy, underlining the importance of the programme said numbers of nephrologists are limited in the country and they are away from the grass root level. Thus a kidney patient reaches them in the last stage.

“If specialist doctors share their experience and impart training to doctors practising at grass root level, it will be of great help for the kidney patients,” Dr Roy said.

Director of kidney disease elimination programme at Medica, Ranchi, Dr Pankaj Mishra, supported Dr Roy. Presenting data he said 10 percent of the country’s population is suffering from kidney disease and every eight deaths are taking place due to kidney ailment.

“If kidney problems are identified and treated in primary stages, 70 percent death due to kidney problems can be reduced,” Dr Mishra said.

A nephrologist associated with Medica, Dr Ashok Kumar Vaidya said diabetes and high blood pressure cause kidney problems and proper treatment on time on grass root level will be of great help to reduce kidney disease.

Medical director of Medica, Dr Vijay Mishra, said Jharkhand has a big population of kidney patients and a joint effort of specialists and medical practitioners will help reduce its number drastically.
