New Delhi, Jan 28: Philippines inked a $374.96 million deal with BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd. on Friday, for the supply of shore-based anti-ship variants of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. This is the missile’s first export order, and it is a joint product of India and Russia.

The contract covers the delivery of three batteries, as well as the necessary Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) package and training for operators and maintainers. The Philippine Marines’ coastal defence regiment will be the major user of missile weapons.

BrahMos is a joint endeavor among DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, and the rocket gets its name from Brahmaputra and Moskva waterways. The rocket is equipped for being sent off from land, ocean, sub-ocean and air against surface and ocean based targets and has for since a long time ago been accepted by the Indian military.

The range of the rocket was initially covered at 290 km according to commitments of the Missile Technology Control Regime. Following India’s entrance into the club in June 2016, authorities said the reach would be stretched out to 450 km and 600 km at a later stage.

Earlier, the extended range missile has been tested and was tested twice on January 11 from indigenous guided stealth missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam and Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, on January 20.
