Ranchi, Jan 29: The Jharkhand education department has started to think about reopening schools and educational institutions from next month.

The information came to the fore after the meeting which was held at the residence of Education Minister Jagannath Mahto under the chairmanship of Education Secretary Rajesh Kumar to open schools and colleges across the state.

It was decided in the meeting that in the second week of February, classes from class 1 to class 12 would open in the state. Apart from this, colleges will also be opened.

Secretary Rajesh Kumar Sharma said that the final decision will be taken after the report of the Disaster Management Department. The education department is in favour of opening schools and colleges across the state.

The letter related to the opening of the school will soon be sent to the Disaster Management Department by the Education Department.

“It is expected that after the end of the second week of February i.e. Saraswati Puja, schools across the state will be opened. And like last time, in view of Coronavirus, the program of reading and learning will continue,” Sharma said.

Due to the Corona pandemic, primary schools from class 1-5 are closed since March 17, 2020. Whereas, classes from 9-12 were opened from 5th August 2021. Classes 6-8 opened on 24 September 2021. However, before this, from December 21, 2020, offline classes of 10th and 12th were started in high school.

At the same time, after the third wave of coronavirus, the order to close all educational institutions was issued on January 3 this year.

The World Bank had also recently criticized the closure of schools in the country, stating that there was no evidence to prove that schools led to a spike in Covid-19 cases.

In Jharkhand, Private Schools and Welfare Association (PSWA) have for the last couple of months been meeting various government authorities to press for reopening schools.
