Ranchi, Jan 29: Hundreds of patients were troubled at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) on Saturday due to the malfunctioning server. For the second time within three days, the server of RIMS went down on Saturday.
Due to this, the registration details of patients could not be found or uploaded for about five hours (7 am to 11:45 pm). About 300 patients kept wandering the halls of RIMS for treatment.
Although Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Shailesh Tripathi ordered the staff posted at the registration counter to cut slips by hand as an alternative arrangement for the time being, after which treatment for some patients could begin in the OPD. However, this could not help the large number of patients at the hospital.
Such a problem was also observed two days back on January 27 when the server was stalled and wouldn’t load the data. Due to this the registration was disrupted for about one and a half hours. The registration could begin once the server started.
PRO DK Sinha said that this is a technical flaw and has been rectified. Treatment of patients is going on in OPD and Emergency.
At the same time, after the offline slips were provided by the staff posted at the registration counter, the doctors treated the patient in the OPD, but this created another set of problems.
In RIMS, there are about three thousand types of tests, including radiology and pathology. In such a situation, due to non-functioning servers, patients had to wait long periods of time for examination.
Notably, the RIMS management has ordered the operation of OPD in the first shift, keeping in mind the pandemic and also to help control the spread of the disease.
In the first shift also, only 40 patients are being given medical advice. In such a situation, patients were deprived of treatment due to server malfunctioning for about five hours on Saturday.
