Patna, Feb 17: The SIT formed by SSP Manavjit Singh Dhillon saw questions raised against it on Thursday. Earlier, on Wednesday Patna Police had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Gai Ghat Women’s Remand Home case. In this case, the SIT was given the right to investigate, interrogate the suspects and identify the culprits to make arrests. IPS woman officer and secretariat’s ASP Kamya Mishra was made in-charge of the SIT. There are a total of 9 police officers in this.
In the case of women’s remand home, the counsel for the victims, Meenu Kumari has alleged that the SSP has disobeyed and directly violated the order of February 11 of the Patna High Court. She said the High Court had clearly said in its order that the investigation officer (IO) of this case should be made a woman officer of DSP rank or above. But, in the SIT formed yesterday, Lucy Kumari, the sub-inspector of the Mahila police station, has been made the IO of the case. Even when the FIR was registered on the statement of both the victims, the police station officer of Mahila Police Station, Kumari Sahchari, made Sub Inspector Lucy Kumari the IO for both the cases.
The lawyer further claimed that the SSP formed the Patna Police SIT but did not make IPS Kamya Mishra as IO, on the fifth day after the order of the High Court. The IO for both the cases still is Sub Inspector Lucy Kumari. She further added that there is a strong objection to this point stating that an application has been written to the SSP of Patna to change the IO. The lawyer also sent a copy of the letter to DGP of Bihar and IG of Patna.
Kumari said that this will directly raise the question on the intention of the government. It seems that the government does not want to conduct a fair investigation into the Gai Ghat Women’s Remand Home case. In this case, the statement of the victim number 1 has already been recorded by the police of Mahila Police Station. However, their investigation is progressing quite slowly. Vandana Gupta, the accused of the case and the superintendent of the women’s remand home, will directly benefit from this. The lawyer said that the case is registered under serious sections of the IPC. If the police wanted, Vandana Gupta could have been arrested on the basis of the statement of victim number 1 but this is yet to happen. This will also allow Vandana Gupta time to tamper with the evidence, who may escape if she gets a chance, claimed the lawyer.
