Jamshedpur, Feb 21: Criminals had a field day in Jamshedpur on Sunday night.
The first incident took place at Kadma at around 8.20 p.m. when some unidentified youths snatched a handbag from a girl who was returning to her home in Ranikudar by foot from Bistupur.
Two bike-borne youths snatched the handbag which contained Rs 4,000 cash and some documents. The youths also assaulted the girl while snatching her cell phone.
Local residents and parents of the victim assembled at the spot soon after the incident.
In the second incident, bike-borne criminals swooped on a businessman’s wife Nisha Nagelia at Baradwari at around 9.30 p.m. and took away the gold chain worth Rs 4 lakh which was wearing.
Nisha, the wife of Kishore Nagelia, was returning home with her relatives by foot after attending a wedding party at the nearby Hotel Ganga Regency.
The relatives raised an alarm but the culprits fled the spot
On getting information, Sitaramdera police reached the spot and started scanning the CCTV footage. The police also started an intensive search operation.
The third incident of crime took place at the Nehru Colony in Golmuri at around 10 p.m. where unidentified youths resorted to indiscriminate firing at the house of one local Congress leader Rahul Chhabra.
No one was injured in the incident. Police sources said the incident was an outcome of a dispute between the Congress leader and a local builder.
Police recovered empty cartridges from the spot of the firing incident.
Meanwhile, a strong resentment prevails among the residents and business community over the rising crime graph of Jamshedpur.
The police have failed to solve the Rs 32 lakh loot case of Bistupur which took place last week.
The cops have also failed to crack the recent Rs 10 lakh gold loot incident of Sakchi though search operations and raids are on.
President of the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Vijay Anand Moonka who went to the spot of snatching at Baradwari last night said, “The rising incidents of crime are a serious issue for a place like Jamshedpur. We had given an ultimatum to the police for arresting the culprits involved in the Rs 32 lakh loot case of Bistupur. But, the culprits are still away from the reach of the police.”
According to Moonka, a sense of fear and insecurity is prevailing among the residents over the recent incidents of crime.
“In the prevailing situation, it is not safe for girls and women to come out of their house after sunset,” he pointed out.
