Kyiv, Feb 22: Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Tuesday that his country is considering cutting diplomatic ties with Russia as a result of Moscow’s recognition of two separatist territories in Ukraine.
“I have received a request from the foreign ministry to examine the question of breaking off relations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation,” said Zelensky.
“I will now, immediately after this press conference, examine and work on this issue,” he said at a joint media appearance with Estonian President Alar Karis.
Putin’s acceptance of the rebel-held territories of Donetsk and Lugansk, he said, was the first step in a planned “military aggression on Ukraine.”
