Daltonganj, April 12: A four-day long Swasthya Mela is set to start in Palamu on April 18.

Giving this information today, the Palamu Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said, “Our Sarthi on Wheels will be rolling out for the Swasthya Mela. The Sarthi will roll out on April 16.”

The Swasthya Mela will begin on April 18. It is a 4-day fair. It will be held in the administrative set-up of the government that is none at any of the community health centres or the primary health centre.

The civil surgeon said the National Health Mission of Jharkhand has geared up for the Swasthya Mela. Before the civil surgeon could interact with the media, the district programme manager Deepak Gupta took the batting for the Swasthya Mela.

Gupta said the fair will be held in a government institution other than the health hub of all 21 blocks. A team of 10 health officials is expected to be at each of the Swasthya Mela.

The fair’s timing is 8 am-4 pm on all four days. However, sources said the intense heat in Palamu may cast a shadow on the fair. There may not be any visitors between 12 noon to 3 pm because of the heatwave.

The CS appealed to the masses to take advantage of the swasthya mela which will focus on general health, maternal health, child health, blindness control, non-communicable diseases, Covid, Ayushman Yojna and other health-related issues.

“The swasthya mela offers a first-hand assessment of the dissected case of breast cancer, cervical cancer etc,” said the civil surgeon.

During the press brief, the civil surgeon also explained in detail about the mission of Parivar Vikas Abhiyan.

“Marriage keeps family going on but if there is the teenage marriage then the family starts no progression but retrogression as teenage childbearing is an open invitation to infant and mother’s mortality,” he said.

Jharkhand, unfortunately, figures 3rd such state in India where teenage marriage is very high. West Bengal and Bihar are the two states where this problem is far more acute and high than in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand stands at 32.2 percent of the teenage marriage India’s highest incidence of teenage pregnancy and childbearing is worn by the West Bengal which accounts for 41.6 percent.

The civil surgeon asked for spacing between the deliveries and talked about the injectible devices for the management of the family planning. He said the injectable device frees a woman to have pregnancy and delivery exactly after 3 years of her last or first delivery.

The civil surgeon agreed that no-scalpel vasectomy the permanent sterilisation for the males is getting grounded before the take-off for the simple reason of males’ total aversion to the family planning.

He said women are pushed forward by men as if the family can be planned by only the fair sex and not by the male.
