New Delhi, April 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in New Delhi on Friday for a lengthy discussion. News Agency ANI stated that during the talks, PM Modi invited the UK to join India’s National Hydrogen Mission.

“We expressed our commitment to fulfilling promises made during the last COP 26. We invite the UK to join India’s National Hydrogen Mission,” said PM Modi.

PM Modi also greeted Johnson, saying that his presence to India at the ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is historic. The prime minister also discussed the critical Future Trade Deal, which was one of Johnson’s top priorities during his two-day visit to India.

“Last year we (India-UK) launched a comprehensive strategic partnership. Work on FTA is underway. Talks held on defense sector, trade, climate & energy. Talks also hold on free, open & rule-based Indo-pacific region,” he said.

PM Boris Johnson reaffirmed PM Modi’s commitment to India-UK cooperation, saying, “We have had wonderful talks today & have strengthened our relationship in every way. The partnership between India and Britain is one of the defining friendships of our times.”

“Since last year, the threats of autocratic coercion have grown even further, therefore it is vital we deepen our cooperation including our shared interest in keeping the Indo-Pacific open and free,” he added.

The UK indicated ahead of the discussions that it would provide India the best of British know-how on constructing battle-winning aircraft and that it would support India’s needs for new technologies to respond to challenges in the Indian Ocean. Notably, in the midst of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the British prime minister arrived in India on Thursday for a two-day visit.
