Ranchi, April 29: The ongoing issue of power shortages in Ranchi has become a matter of concern and it seems like it is not going to improve anytime soon.
Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) has said that the thermal plants all across the country need to increase their production.
Ranchi requires around 290 to 300 Megawatt (MW) of electricity but the current supply is 20-25 MW less.
Due to the non-availability of electricity, people have to face a lot of trouble during the scorching heat of summer. Load shedding has become a constant issue for the people.
JBVNL’s managing director K.K. Verma had earlier said in an interview that the power production in the power plants have been reduced to 50% due to shortages of coal.
He added that this situation is prevailing in other states as well such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
JBVNL is currently receiving around 1,700 MW electricity from the central pool instead of its demand of 2,100 MW per day. Currently, it is producing 330 MW electricity at the Tenughat Power Plant in Bokaro.
Meanwhile, the state government has blamed the center for the power crisis in the state. JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya has said that the coal supplied from Jharkhand is generating electricity across the country but the state itself is facing power shortages. He added that the central government is responsible for this.
However, the officials from Jharkhand Urja Sancharan Nigam Limited (JUSNL) said that with the functioning of Adhunik Power Plants, the shortages of electricity can be curbed to a great extent. Necessary steps are being taken so that there are less power cuts.
