Ranchi, April 29: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) in collaboration with Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) and Amway organised a workshop on Healthy Living for the Jharkhand Police force to guide them into a stress-free, healthy lifestyle.

Officials were taught to use yoga, and meditation to manage stress. They were also advised by dieticians, wellness and health experts along with psychiatry professionals that informed them of how the stress may lead to depression and how that can be avoided.

Speaking on the occasion, YS Ramesh, IPS, CO, JAP 1 said, “The police officials face a lot of hardships and lead stressful lives. They work in an unorganized way and don’t have a 9 to 5 job and are called for duty at any time of the day. The unscheduled pattern that we follow also leads to stress. Officials are expected to show perfection in imperfect situations without much infrastructure. Be it a law and order situation or VIP duty, police officials face every difficult situation with ease, despite living in stressful situations in barracks without families. In such situations, stress levels often increase.”

IPS Ramesh further continued, “There are also times when we have personal issues but are not allowed week offs. Our work culture and profile are also filled with negativity. If deputed in a police station, an average police official sees much negativity around in the form of reports of rape, murder and other issues. In such situations, insensitivity gradually increases amid us, which may lead to depression.”

“We are not able to lead a mentally and physically healthy life due to our busy schedules. The seminar today will tell us ways to manage our stress and lead a mentally and physically healthy life. Some officials have a passion for staying fit, while others are more laid back, however, I urge all of you to take help from speakers and improve your life quality,” the IPS added.

IPS Priya Dubey, IG (Training) was also present on the occasion and commended the organizers for such an event for the benefit of police officials. She further said, “Several of us have a lot of mental stress due to the work pressure that we face. Along with this, we have also seen breakdowns of several officials under stress because they didn’t know how to manage it. This workshop will help you manage your stress and not let it affect your psyche.”

Amway representative Sandeep Mukherjee also informed us of the health issues that may happen if not taken proper care of. Furthermore, he tried convincing officials of the importance of mental peace.

Experts present on the occasion both physically and virtually included Basudeb Das, Director, CIP; Shalini Shrivastava, wellness expert; Dr Abha Chandra, Dietician, CIP; Swami Muktirath, Yog Guru; Mukesh Sinha, Health Expert; and S K Singh, former director, IMS, Ranchi.
