Daltonganj, May 3: Three people died in a freak accident on NH 75 on Tuesday. Two of them died on the spot while one passed away in the hospital.

The officer in charge of the Satbarwa police station Rishikesh Kumar said the accident took place around 4 in the morning today.

The site of the accident is 2 kilometres away from the nearest police station Satbarwa.

Police officer Rishikesh said a truck was parked on the left side of the NH 75 which was hit by a speedy four-wheeler on its right side. The two occupants of the four-wheeler died on the spot. The driver of the four-wheeler sustained severe injuries.

Over half a dozen other occupants of the four-wheeler were rushed to the nearest mission hospital Tumbagara where one of the injured succumbed to the injuries, taking the total number of casualties to 3.

Rishikesh said five injured were later referred to the RIMS Ranchi by the mission hospital.

The badly mutilated four-wheeler was brought down to the police station with the help of a JCB. The parked truck also suffered damage. The crew of the truck is stated to be safe as no member of the crew was inside the cabin of the truck.

“We believe the four-wheeler having more than half a dozen people were coming from Latehar after the Tilak ceremony there spending the larger part of the night awake,” said police officer Rishikesh.

It is presumed the driver of the four-wheeler might have dozed off and this resulted in the four-wheeler hitting the parked truck.

The traffic on NH 75 is back to usual.

Sources said this is the second episode of this year when lives have been lost on the road in a freak manner like hitting a parked vehicle.
