Coal India Ltd retirees urge CMPFO’s new commissioner for speedy pension justice

Dhanbad, May 10: The Coal Pensioners Association has congratulated the new commissioner of Coal Mines Provident Fund Organization (CMPFO) Bijay Kumar Mishra after assuming the office and has requested him to act for beleaguered thousands of coal employees who retired before 2006.

Coal Pensioners Association (CPA) in its congratulation letter to the new commission on Tuesday expressed hope that in his leadership (as CMPFO head) the employees would get justice after 16 years of retirement.

CMPFO has got a full-time commissioner as Bijay Kumar Mishra after five years. So far, the CMPFO that handles provident funds of lacks coal miners was under a caretaker commissioner resulting in retired employees related to several issues are pending.

“Thousands of retired employees of Coal India Limited (CIL) who retired before 2006 have been leading penury life in absence of irrational fixation of pension on basic pay of 1971. The condition of the employees who retired before 1994 is hellish. So under your goodship thousands of beleaguered retired employees hope they would get justice,” said CPA president Ramanuj Prasad in his letter.

The pensioners association has also suggested to the new commissioner that CMPFO has a surplus amount in administrative funds and this could be used in fixing the honourable pensions of employees who retired before 2006. As per official sources over Rs 3-4 thousand crore accumulated from the administrative grant are lying unused in the organization.
Sources said the new commissioner, who assumed office on Monday, in his very first meeting announced to fill up vacant posts in the organization and has conveyed Board of Trustees meeting next month to clear pending issues.
