New Delhi, May 16: A team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday inspected the commercial building in Mundka that was completely destroyed in a huge fire on May 13. NHRC took the suo moto cognizance in the matter.
“We have taken suo moto cognizance of the incident. looking into human rights violations. It’s the first day of the probe, and will progress as we get more facts,” said Sunil Meena, NHRC DIG.
Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission sent a notice to the Delhi government on Sunday over the Mundka building fire, which claimed 27 lives, and requested a report within two weeks.
According to the contents of media sources, commission said that this looks to be the worst case of egregious violation of victims’ human rights due to utter apathy and complete dereliction of statutory obligations by public workers in the National capital of Delhi, resulting in the loss of priceless lives due to fire.
Notably, the owner of the four-story building in Mundka, Outer Delhi, that caught fire two days ago, killing at least 27 people and wounding a number of others, has been apprehended by Delhi police.
Officials said the property was passed over to the accused, Manish Lakra, after his father Baljeet Lakra died in 2015.
