New Delhi, May 19: The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) announced on Thursday that the first wave of floods had affected more than 2.88 lakh people in Nagaon district, with 147 villages under three revenue circles currently under water.

Thousands of individuals in the Borkola and Dakhinpaat areas of the Raha and Nagaon revenue circles have been displaced as flood water invaded their homes, according to reports. As a result, they have been compelled to relocate to safer areas.

According to records, the district now has 9,742.57 hectares of agriculture under water.

Constant rain has increased the water level in the Kopili river, aggravating the state’s situation. New places have been submerged due to rising water levels.

The river’s water level has already reached its highest point, inundating additional portions of the district. Several roads leading to the Kampur area have also been flooded.

Notably, more than 6.62 lakh people over 27 districts of Assam have been affected by the floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains in the state.
