New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party founding president Abhijeet Dipke announced on Monday, as Parliament’s Monsoon Session began, that the party would launch its planned march to Parliament, telling the crowd gathered at Jantar Mantar that it was set to become the largest march in India’s history.
Dipke Says Democracy Has Been Revived Through Month-Long Protest
Dipke alleged that efforts to dismantle democracy in the country have been ongoing for the past 10-12 years, and, boosting the morale of the gathered crowd, said that by sitting at Jantar Mantar for a month, protesters had helped revive democracy, with people arriving from across the country to join the movement.
Dipke Recalls Doubts Raised During His Time in the US
He recalled that while he was in the United States, people had told him no one would actually come out onto the streets and that the movement would remain confined to social media trends. However, he pointed to the crowds filling every road leading to Jantar Mantar as proof otherwise, asserting that nothing could stop them from marching to Parliament.
CJP Spokesperson Says Administration Yet to Respond Clearly on Talks
CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the administration was attempting to initiate dialogue and that the party was open to talks, but added that no clear message had come from their side yet, placing the responsibility on the government to respond. Regarding Sonam Wangchuk, Das said he remained stable and continued his hunger strike, with Wangchuk sending good wishes to the young protesters who, he said, had finally awakened against a system that refused to listen to them. Das added that a peaceful march would take place soon, noting that the protesters had spent the last 30 days at the site demonstrating how peaceful protest is conducted.
