Jamshedpur, Nov 17: A CRPF jawan Rohit Kumar who was earlier posted at paramilitary forces’ 157 battalion at Adityapur in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district has been arrested by Adityapur police.
A resident of Sitahuri village in Narayanpur police station of Bihar’s Bhojpur district, the jawan had decamped with two Insas rifles from the CRPF’s 157 battalion on November 9 and was arrested from Digha in Patna on Wednesday.
A team from Adityapur thana has seized a car from a place in Digha while arresting the jawan. The police had already recovered the two stolen rifles from his native place a day earlier.
Revealing the breakthrough, the Saraikela-Kharsawan SP, Anand Prakash said that Rohit was posted here in 2014, but was transferred to CRPF battalion 81 in Chhattisgarh in July this year.
“Though transferred to Chhattisgarh, he did not join his new post and instead continued to visit a relative’s house in Telco. During his visit to the steel city, he had stolen two Insas rifles by breaking open the battalion’s armory on November 9,” said Anand while addressing a press conference.
The SP said the Adityapur police had registered a case on the FIR lodged by CRPF inspector, Banwarilal Meena, suspecting Rohit’s hand behind the theft of rifles.
The senior police officer, however, did disclose the intention behind the act of stealing the rifles, adding that the investigation is on.
