New Delhi, July 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to look into the murder of a chemist whose throat was slit a week earlier in Maharashtra.
This comes amid the simmering tension over the horrific murder of a tailor in Rajasthan’s Udaipur for a social media post on Prophet Mohammad.
MHA has handed over the investigation of the case relating to the barbaric killing of Shri Umesh Kolhe in Amravati Maharashtra on 21st June to NIA.
The conspiracy behind the killing, involvement of organisations and international linkages would be thoroughly investigated.

The 54-year-old Umesh Kolhe’s murder was allegedly related to the Udaipur incident, according to the local BJP chapter in Amravati. The Udaipur killing is being investigated by the national anti-terrorism agency.
“The only reason behind Umesh Kolhe’s murder is in the context of the Nupur Sharma controversy. People in the police department also think so. We have learnt that the killers have admitted to murdering him because of supporting Nupur Sharma, but the police are trying to cover it up,” Tushar Bhartiya, a BJP leader in Amravati district said.
“This happened on June 21. Had it been reported widely on 22nd, Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal wouldn’t have been killed. That is why the police are trying to hide it. If they can’t find the real reason even after catching the culprits, the case should be transferred from them,” he added.
Police have detained five people after the murder last month, but they have not been able to provide any information about what caused it and have kept quiet about the case.
Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Maharashtra Police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad are reportedly en route to Amravati to examine the incident.
Umesh Kolhe, a veterinary chemist, was slain by having his throat cut on June 21 while he was returning from his store in Amravati city.
Initially, it appeared to be a case of robbery or personal animosity, but no supporting evidence for these theories has been discovered.
The BJP said that Umesh Kolhe, like Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, had uploaded a message in support of Nupur Sharma, whose comments on the Prophet Mohammad sparked widespread outrage and criticism from throughout the world.
