New Delhi: Air India has announced it will operate its evening flights AI237 and AI238 on the Delhi-Dhaka-Delhi route, effective Tuesday, amidst ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh. The airline is also providing a one-time waiver for rescheduling flights for passengers with confirmed bookings to and from Dhaka between August 4 and 7, 2024.
The airline stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the waiver applies to tickets booked by August 5, emphasizing that passenger and crew safety is their top priority. For further details, travelers can contact Air India’s call centers or visit their website.
The decision comes after a turbulent period in Bangladesh, marked by the end of Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year premiership. Following intense protests and violent clashes that led to nearly 100 deaths on Sunday, Hasina fled the country, and the military has announced plans to establish an interim government.
India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar confirmed that the Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with Dhaka’s authorities. In a statement to the Rajya Sabha, Jaishankar urged understanding and support from the House regarding the sensitive situation in the neighboring country.
