New Delhi: Responding sharply to Pakistan politician Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s provocative statement following India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has reminded him of the brutal history of terrorism within Pakistan itself.
Bilawal Bhutto’s Controversial Remark
Bilawal Bhutto, former Foreign Affairs Minister of Pakistan, had said at a rally,
“The Indus is ours and will remain ours – either our water will flow through it, or their blood.”
This was in retaliation to India’s strong diplomatic actions after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly Indian tourists.
Owaisi’s Blunt Response
Owaisi dismissed Bhutto’s rhetoric as childish, adding:
“Forget about such childish talk. He doesn’t know what happened to his grandfather and mother? His mother was killed by terrorists. Terrorism killed her. If he doesn’t get that, what can you explain to him?”
Owaisi pointed out the hypocrisy in Bhutto’s stance, noting that the terrorists who killed Benazir Bhutto — Bilawal’s mother — were the same forces that continue to wreak havoc.
He further lashed out at Pakistan’s repeated nuclear threats towards India, saying:
“You are worse than Khawarij. You are ISIS sympathisers. If you attack our people and ask their religion before killing them, you are nothing but cowards.”
Historical Context
Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, was assassinated in 2007 during a rally in Rawalpindi. The attack was attributed to extremist terror groups linked to the Taliban and al-Qaeda, though the case remains officially unresolved.
Other Indian Leaders Also Condemn Bhutto’s Statement
-
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said,
“Tell him to get his mental condition checked. Enough is enough.”
-
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor termed the comments “inflammatory” and warned,
“If blood flows, it will flow more on their side than ours.”
Tensions Escalate After Pahalgam Attack
Following the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and expelled Pakistani military attaches. Pakistan, in retaliation, threatened to suspend all bilateral agreements including the Simla Agreement.
