Ranchi, Feb 21: Former state minister Bandhu Tirkey talked about the establishment of an agricultural institute and museum in the name of agricultural scientist Satish Chandra Prasad while paying homage to the latter at Morabadi.
Tirkey, who is a member of the government’s coordination committee and a working president of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC), while consoling Prasad’s son Pranav Kumar Babu, who is an advocate by profession, struck the talk in the direction remember Prasad for his contribution in the field of agriculture.
“Prasad is regarded as Rice Man. He was a former director of the Plant Breeding and Genetics Department of Birsa Agricultural University. After his demise the country has lost an agricultural scientist who had a great spiritual and emotional attachment with the country’s farmers and people associated with the agriculture sector,” Tirkey said
“Due to some scientists like Prasad, the Green Revolution in India was so successful that today there is no shortage of food grains in the country,” he said adding “Prasad discovered 14 improved varieties of rice, especially for the farmers of Chotanagpur and Santhal Parganas, which give more yield even with less irrigation. It helped strengthen the economic condition of the farmers.”
Tirkey said, “Establishment of an agricultural institute will be helpful for farmers, agricultural scientists, research scholars and students doing research in the agriculture sector. Not only should agriculture research be added to the said institute and museum, but Jharkhand and its contribution, research and achievements so far in the field of agriculture should be presented in a planned manner in the national perspective in the institute.”
