Jamshedpur, August 19: Over 24 hours have elapsed since a daring robbery took place at the Bank of India’s Ulidih branch in the crowded Mango locality of the steel city on Thursday. Despite this, the police are clueless about the criminals indulged in the crime.

The apparent lacking of expertise on the part of the police to investigate the kind of heist taken place at the BoI’s branch may meet the same fate as they met in the case of the Rs 32 lakhs robbery that had taken place in Bistupur on February 11 and snatching of gold jewellery weighing 205 grams at Sakchi a week later.

Like the investigation into the two earlier incidents of robbery and snatching, a little headway the police have succeeded to make so far in the BoI’s Ulidih branch case is coming out with a figure of the total amount that has been robbed.

In the robbery at the BoI’s Ulidih branch, the criminals decamped with Rs 33.5 lakhs. Apart from the cash, the robbers took away gold ornaments kept in the lockers.

“The criminals have decamped with Rs 33.5 lakhs beside stock of gold jewellery from the bank’s Ulidih branch. We are trying to detect the case,” said senior SP, Prabhat Kumar today while responding to the queries made by lagatar24.com.

He pointed out that today is a bank holiday, and the extent of gold ornaments lost is yet to be estimated by the bank management.

Kumar claimed separate teams of police officers are making frantic efforts to unravel the case.

A gang of armed criminals had swooped over the bank housed on the first floor of a multi-storeyed building at the first hour of the banking time and decamped with cash to the tune of as mentioned above and an unspecified quantity of gold ornaments having taken the officials as well as the customers of the bank hostage at gunpoint.

The criminals who had covered their faces remained on a robbing spree for about 20 minutes, having ensured that no one can get an inkling of what was going on inside the bank premises.

According to sources, the BoI’s Ulidih branch had an armed security guard till July 31, but from August 1 the bank was running without a security guard as the contract for keeping the guard was over.

According to knowledgeable sources, the robbery at the Ulidih-based bank was committed by a gang of professional criminals. Now it is to be seen if the police succeed in cracking the case or not.
