Ranchi, April 21: When honey bees had attacked police personnel while celebrating Holi this year at the DIG office, it was expected from Ranchi police officials to take necessary steps but presence of 17 beehives at district police headquarters in Ranchi does not suggest so.
A police official has supported the observation by saying that continuous efforts were made to remove the bee hives but it went in vain.
“It was removed many times but it seems like the bees find a way to make the hives again. We all are terrified imagining a bee attack,” a constable said.
Deputy collector (Nazarat), K.K.Agrawal said he has been unaware of any such situation occurring at the building.
“There were three bee hives in block A that were removed. I have come to know now that there are 17 more in block B. It will be removed soon,” Agrawal said.
A tribal person who visited the office has informed that the hive which is presently existing there is more dangerous. “These are not hives of honey bees. These are usually hives of carpenter bees which are more dangerous,” the person said.
An official at Dhurwa police station has said that once a person threw a stone at the beehive and it caused a bee attack which caused injuries to many people at the police station and nearby.
