Dhanbad, June 26: The Executive Director (ED) of Civil Engineering, Railway Board, Ajit Kumar Jha, a BIT Sindri alumni, has got the ‘Highest Recognition’ award from the Railway Board for his outstanding achievement of freight loading in the 2022-23 financial year.
Jha steered the railway to post a record freight loading of 1.5 billion tons by railway in the 2022-23 financial year. Railway Board Member (operation and business development) Jaya Varma Sinha has congratulated Jha on this achievement and said that freight loading of over 1.5 billion tonnes could be possible only due to the tireless efforts of his team.
A festive atmosphere appeared on the campus of BIT Sindri as the report of the award to the alumni Jha reached here. BIT Sindri Director Prof. DK Singh, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Jharkhand Technical University (JTU), Ranchi has highly appreciated the achievement of Ajit Kumar Jha and extended best wishes for his success in his professional endeavors.
Prof Rajiv Ranjan, Department of Information and Technology, BIT Sindri also complimented Jha and expressed his delight over the ‘Highest Recognition’ Railway Board award to him. Besides him, other senior faculty members of BIT Sindri Prof. Pankaj Rai, Prof. Upendra, Prof. Ghanshyam, Prof. Verma, and Prof. Kujur, HoD, civil engineering department, congratulated him.
Jha completed his B Tech in civil engineering from BIT Sindri in 1992 and obtained his M Tech from IIT Delhi in 1994. He was the highest scorer in the 1996 UPSC Combined Engineering Services exam. He started his career as an assistant executive engineer at Gomoh of East Central Railway zone from 2015 to 2019. Thereafter, he joined ECR Hajipur zone as the Deputy General Manager cum Secretary to the General Manager of the East Central Railway, Hajipur zone from 2019 to 2022.
Since March 2023, he has been serving as an Executive Director of the civil engineering department in the railway ministry. He received medals from the GM level in 2002 and 201, as well as from the railway ministry in 2013.
