Bengaluru: Relentless rains have once again paralysed India’s IT capital, with waterlogged streets, traffic snarls, and submerged homes turning daily life upside down. In a striking visual symbolising the severity of the crisis, a BJP MLA was seen navigating the flooded Sai Layout area atop a JCB earthmover, drawing both public attention and political reactions.

Opposition, citizens question preparedness

With several low-lying areas inundated after Sunday night’s downpour, opposition leaders accused the state government of failing to address Bengaluru’s long-standing drainage and infrastructure issues. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya criticised Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, calling out what he termed “decades of civic neglect.” Surya wrote, “At least now, will you forego your tunnel road fantasy and concentrate on the basics?” adding that little progress had been seen under the current leadership.

Government promises relief, IMD warns of more rain

Deputy CM Shivakumar responded by assuring that flood relief efforts were underway and that he would visit the BBMP War Room and affected areas. “I remain committed to working round the clock to address challenges and ensure relief,” he said on social media. Meanwhile, boats were deployed and Karnataka Police assisted in rescue operations as residents in severely affected pockets struggled with rising water levels. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and several Karnataka districts, forecasting continued rainfall for the next 48 hours.
