Daltonganj, Mar 10: A ruckus was created by the relatives of BJP MLA Alok Chourasia in the Medinirai Medical College Hospital in Daltonganj over the issue of reopening of the incision of an indoor patient Anjali Devi (21) who had a cesarean operation on March 3.

Anjali Devi was admitted to MMCH Daltonganj on March 2 for delivery. She had her C-section the next day when she delivered the baby.

The woman’s wound has opened on the edge and this led to a great hue and cry by the relatives of the BJP MLA. The woman belongs to the Chourasia clan from which the MLA also comes.

The relatives contested that the wound of the woman was not properly stitched and so it broke down. The relatives further accused the medical team of indifference and apathy towards the woman.

A few of them said there is rampant corruption in the maternity ward of the MMCH.

A well-known gynaecologist Dr S S Horo and her team operated upon her in the MMCH Daltonganj.

Dr Horo told this correspondent that sometimes the incision reopens. The woman was given subcutaneous stitching. It was done adequately and appropriately.

According to the doctor, the woman has a small reopening which is curable. She is now being given the required dressing and medication. “She is doing fine and there is absolutely no health problem with her,” reminded the gynaecologist.

Civil surgeon Palamu Dr Anil Kumar said he was the first to meet the angry relatives of the woman.

“These people had this ‘feeling and impression’ with them that stitching was not done properly. Such feelings are bound to arise in such a situation,” Dr. Anil said.

The CS further said that he told them that it is a case of wound dehiscence. Wound dehiscence is a partial reopening of the incision. It is a post-surgical complication but not of any major worry if taken care of well in time.

Asked about the damage control exercise now, the civil surgeon said the woman is in MMCH Daltonganj where she is given the dressing. She will be discharged only when she reports to be fine and her wound gets cured.
