New Delhi: A fresh wave of bomb threats has disrupted multiple IndiGo and Akasa Air flights on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Security agencies scrambled to address these alarming incidents, as over 70 domestic and international flights have received bomb threats this week alone. Most have turned out to be hoaxes, but the threats have caused significant concern and led to heightened security measures at airports across India.

Details of Affected Flights

IndiGo, in a series of statements, confirmed the bomb threats affecting their operations. Among the targeted flights was IndiGo 6E 58, traveling from Jeddah to Mumbai. The airline reassured passengers, stating, “We are working closely with relevant authorities and taking all necessary precautions as per the guidelines.”

Other IndiGo flights affected by the threats include:

  • Flight 6E 87: Kozhikode to Dammam
  • Flight 6E 11: Delhi to Istanbul
  • Flight 6E 17: Mumbai to Istanbul
  • Flight 6E 133: Pune to Jodhpur
  • Flight 6E 112: Goa to Ahmedabad

Meanwhile, Akasa Air flights that received security alerts included:

  • QP 1378: Delhi to Goa
  • QP 1385: Mumbai to Bagdogra
  • QP 1406: Delhi to Hyderabad
  • QP 1519: Kochi to Mumbai
  • QP 1526: Lucknow to Mumbai

Akasa Air Response

An Akasa Air spokesperson stated, “Our emergency response team was immediately activated. We followed standard operating procedures and ensured all passengers’ needs were addressed.” Inspections of the affected aircraft were conducted thoroughly, and no suspicious materials were found.

Aviation Security Meeting

In light of these bomb threats, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) held an urgent meeting on Saturday with airline representatives. The ministry of civil aviation plans to enforce stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future, which may include placing perpetrators of hoax threats on a no-fly list.
