Jamshedpur, May 3: In a major breakthrough, the Seraikela-Kharsawan police on Wednesday arrested two persons, including a woman from Jamshedpur for allegedly indulging in the peddling of “brown sugar” in the steel city.
Identified as Imdad Khan alias Babu (36) and Ashma Perveen (39) are brother and sister and were arrested from Golmuri and Bistupur’s Dhatkidih locality respectfully.
Revealing the achievement, Seraikela-Kharsawan SP, Anand Prakash said that Babu is originally a resident of Adityapur Muslim Bustee in Adityapur, but was staying at a rented house clandestinely in the Golmuri locality of Jamshedpur for the past three months.
“Babu was involved in the murder of Mohammed Sabir which took place in Adityapur three months ago. Sabir’s murder was committed in the sequel to the drug peddling business, leading the police to arrest two persons – Saddam Khan and Kadim Khan, but Babu had managed to abscond. Recently, we got a tip-off that Babu was running the drug business clandestinely at Golmuri by staying at a rented house there. Then only we set up a team and arrested him from his house today, ” said Anand Prakash while talking to the newsmen at a press conference.
The SP said that after interrogating Babu, the police could know that his sister Ashma Perveen was also indulged in the drug business by staying at Dhatkidih. Soon after the police raided the house of Ashma Perveen and arrested her too.
The senior police officer revealed that the raiding team has seized 62 grams of “brown sugar” from the possession of Babu and Ashma Perveen respectively.
