Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren chaired a review meeting of the Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development Department, issuing a series of key directives focused on worker welfare, skill development, employment generation, and the protection of migrant workers from Jharkhand.
Worker Database to Be Updated Within Three Months
Soren directed officials to update the database of unorganised, construction, and migrant workers within three months, ensuring complete information about Jharkhand workers employed across different states is available on the portal. He emphasised that the department must have direct reach to workers so they can be assisted under any circumstance.
Migrant Assistance Centres in Five Major Cities
Under the Jharkhand State Migrant Assistance Scheme, migrant support centres will be established in Noida, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Mumbai to provide assistance to workers employed in other states and abroad. The CM also directed officials to intensify the worker registration drive through camps and ensure maximum enrolment on the e-Shram portal.
Safety Gear and Standards for Construction Workers
Soren directed that MNREGA workers be provided with safety kits including helmets, shoes, and gloves, and that safety standards at construction sites be strictly enforced. He also instructed authorities to identify labour squares and develop worker rest and facility centres at those locations, offering shelter from sun and rain along with information on government schemes.
Model ITI in Every District
On skill development, the CM directed that Industrial Training Institutes across the state be modernised, with one model ITI to be developed in each district along with grading of all institutions. He called for the introduction of high-value agriculture courses, state-of-the-art machines, laboratories, and smart classrooms, along with a strong placement system so that ITI-trained youth do not struggle to find employment.
CM Interacts With Trained Workers Via Video Conference
During the meeting, Soren connected via video conference with Suraj Kumar, trained at Dhanbad ITI and currently working in Jabalpur, and Anima Kumari, trained at Lohardaga’s Mosaic Skill Training Centre and now employed in Pune. Both expressed satisfaction at having secured good employment after their training.
Jharkhand to Be Known as Self-Reliant State
The CM stressed that Jharkhand should be established not merely as a labour-supplying state but as a self-reliant one. He called for a concrete action plan to increase local employment opportunities to curb migration, along with an effective system for worker verification. The meeting was attended by Labour Minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, and other senior officials.
