New Delhi: The central government has imposed a limit on diesel sales at petrol pumps, capping purchases at 200 litres per customer per day, in a move aimed at curbing hoarding and black marketing of fuel amid the ongoing Hormuz crisis.
Order Issued to Prevent Diesel Hoarding
The Modi government issued the order on Friday, restricting the sale of High Speed Diesel (HSD) at petrol pumps. According to the government, the decision has been taken specifically to prevent hoarding and black marketing of diesel during the current crisis period.
Commercial Buyers Directed to Authorised Outlets
As per the order, customers requiring diesel for commercial and industrial purposes will need to procure fuel only from authorised facilities, depots, or designated pumps. This measure is intended to ensure that bulk fuel purchases do not put pressure on the retail network meant for general consumers.
Temporary Measure for Up to 90 Days
The government has clarified that this is a temporary arrangement, valid for a maximum of 90 days, and may be revised based on a review of the situation. Oil marketing companies and petrol pump operators have been directed to strictly comply with the order.
Aim Is to Ensure Regular Supply for Essential Sectors
According to the government, this decision will help ensure regular and uninterrupted availability of diesel for general consumers, transport services, the agriculture sector, and other essential services across the country.
