New Delhi, Oct 18: The government on Wednesday announced a hike in the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat by Rs 150 to Rs 2,275 per quintal for the 2024–25 marketing season, ahead of assembly elections in important wheat-growing states.

This marks the largest increase by the government led by Narendra Modi since taking office in 2014.

In this context, a decision was made during the Prime Minister Modi-chaired meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).

For the April–March 2023–24 marketing season, the MSP on wheat is currently Rs 2,125 per quintal.

Informing the media, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur stated that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given its nod for raising the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all stipulated rabi crops for the 2024-25 marketing season.

“Based on the CACP recommendation, we have increased the MSP of six rabi crops. Wheat MSP has been increased by Rs 150 per quintal,” he said.

He further stated that the support price of wheat has been raised from Rs 2,125 per quintal in 2023–24 to Rs 2,275 per quintal for the 2024–25 marketing season.
