Chatra, May 10: Thirteen-year-old Kajal Kumari who jumped into a 40 feet well to save a toddler has been referred to Sheikh Bhikhari medical college and hospital in the neighbouring Hazaribag district for better treatment. Kajal saved three-year-old Shivam Kumar but injured herself.
Kajal is a student of Class VIII at Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya at Husia village in Mayurhund block. The boy had accidentally fallen into the well while playing near it on Monday.
Kajal’s father Suresh Bhuiyan is a daily wage labourer. He said she suffered injuries on her face, head and other parts of her body.
Getting information about Kajal’s bravery and about her injuries, Manjhgawan Mukhiya Manjeet Kumar Singh reached her house on Tuesday evening. He met the girl handing fruits to help her financially. He took her to the primary health centre in Mayurhund where Dr Awnish Tarwey attended her. Tarwey said Kajal needed better treatment for her injuries and so she was referred to the medical college in Hazaribag.
Suresh said her daughter is now getting the required treatment at Hazaribag Hospital. Singh assured all help to Kajal as well as agreeing on the demand made by villagers for felicitating her. I will take up her matter with officials, added he. Even her family will not have any financial problems with her treatment, he assured.
Shivam came to the house of his maternal grandfather here. He accidentally fell into the well while playing on Monday. The well, which has 15 feet of water, didn’t have a guard wall around it. Kajal didn’t waste any time and jumped into the well to save the child. She held Shivam in one hand and the motor pipe inside the well with the other to keep themselves afloat. She kept shouting for help from inside till local villagers came there for their rescue.
