Dhanbad, Aug 27: The three-day Smart India Hackathon (SIH) for innovative problem-solving of government departments’ problems came to a successfully concluded at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad on Friday late in the evening, receiving high praise from union labour ministry specialists.
Teams from 19 engineering institutions around the country were given 36 hours to come up with solutions to the six issues being faced by the department of the union labour ministry. 113 techies from various institutions took part in this two-day mega event.
- MIT Academy of Engineering Alandi, Pune won the first prize in solving ‘Complaint Redressal Machinery.
- Government College of Engineering, Srirangam ( Tamil Nadu) won first prize in solving ‘ Employment System for Migrated Labourer Traceability’.
- BN College of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow was declared winner in the innovation of searching solution for the ‘Employed Traceability System for Organized Sector’.
- JP Institute of Information Technology, Noida and SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai won first prize jointly in giving ideas for the solution of ‘E-body for Rescued Child Labour.
- Pattison College of Art and Science, Chennai won first prize in giving solutions for the Knowledge Sharing Platform for VV Giri National Labour.
- KSSS’s Commins College of Engineering for Women, Pune and Rungta College of Engineering Bhilai were declared joint winners in solving the ‘Guidance System for Claim Need of Labour.
Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh was the chief guest at the closing function organized by the union ministry of labour. He gave away the first prize of Rs 1 lakh to each winning team of the engineering colleges.

- Dipangar Guha, deputy secretary of the ministry of labour and employment
- Dr Shikha Anand, director of the National Career Service Portal
- Dr Dinesh K Dharni, deputy director of Employment Provident Fund Organization
- Dr Helen R Shekhar, senior fellow coordinator of the National Resource Centre on Child Labour
- Dr Kshtrimanyan, a fellow of VV Giri National Labor Institute
- Ashwani Kumar, joint director of DGE Employment Fund Organization
ISM director Prof Rajiv Shekhar, deputy director Dhiraj Kumar and other faculty members of IIT ISM were also present during the event.
