Raipur, Feb 26: A chief constable of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was killed by an IED that was detonated in the Narayanpur area of Chhattisgarh on Sunday after being put there by the Naxalites. Around 7 am, a blast within the boundaries of the Orchha police station occurred close to Batum Village.
Earlier, three police officers lost their lives in a clash with Naxalites on Saturday in the Sukma district of the state.
The head constable killed in the IED blast has been identified as Sanjay Lakra. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Hemsagar Sidar confirmed the event.
A CAF squad began patrolling from the Orchha police station, some 300 km from the state capital Raipur, after learning that Naxalites had set up banners in the region, an official told PTI.
Head Constable Sanjay Lakra of the CAF’s 16th battalion accidentally stepped over a pressure IED connection as the patrolling team advanced into Batum, the official claimed. This caused the blast that killed him.
He stated that Lakra’s body was taken to a nearby hospital. Lakra was a resident of the Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh.
On February 20, a Naxalite attack in the state’s Rajnandgaon area resulted in the deaths of two police officers.
