Ranchi: Despite Ranchi Municipal Corporation’s tall claims about road development, the reality in city alleys and neighborhoods paints a different picture. From Police Line to Kanke, Hatma to Bara Talab, and Sirmatoli to Station Road, many inner roads are riddled with potholes, mud, and stagnant water—posing daily hardships for residents.

Same Story in Every Lane

A ground report covering areas like Police Line, near Reliance Mart in Kanke, Adarsh Nagar, Bajra Toli, Kanke Dam Road, Hatma, Karamtoli, Chutia, Station Road, Sukhdev Nagar Road, Bara Talab, Lalji Hirji Road, Upper Bazar, Sirmatoli, and S.N. Ganguly Road revealed a common scene—broken roads, waterlogged potholes, and disrupted daily movement for commuters.

Public Frustration: “We Pay Taxes, Where Are the Roads?”

Residents express anger over the neglect. While main roads have been repaired, inner colonies have been left untouched. During monsoon, the situation worsens drastically. Locals lament that despite paying taxes every year, they neither receive proper roads nor regular cleaning. Rainy seasons become particularly dangerous for children and elderly who find it hard to step outside.

Rising Accidents and Health Hazards

The poor road conditions have led to frequent skidding accidents for two-wheelers and injuries to pedestrians. Waterlogged potholes have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of diseases like dengue and malaria.

Civic Apathy Under Scrutiny

The corporation had previously run a road repair campaign, but it seems their focus never reached the inner colonies. Residents question when their concerns will finally be heard. They demand that the municipality stop patting itself on the back for fixing only main roads and instead address the crumbling lanes inside neighbourhoods to truly alleviate public suffering.
