New Delhi, March 24: Congress has scheduled an urgent meeting on Friday evening at party headquarters in the national capital with members of its steering committee, PCC presidents, CLP leaders, and frontal organisation commanders. The gathering will be presiding over by Party President Kharge.

The Congress party has planned a significant protest today, a day after its MP Rahul Gandhi was found guilty by a Surat court in a defamation case and given a two-year prison sentence. It has prepared a demonstration for today at Vijay Chowk.

The party stated that it also intends to meet with President Droupadi Murmu to discuss the matter with other parties. Throughout the present second leg of the Budget Session, Congress is also anticipated to bring up the matter in Parliament.

“They (BJP) are doing this to sidestep the main issue. Congress has always stood by OBC, SC, ST, Backward class and minorities and fought for them,” Kharge said.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi was given a two-year jail term on Thursday by the Surat District Court in a criminal defamation case. Afterwards, the court granted him bail, and his sentence was postponed for 30 days so that he could file an appeal.
