New Delhi, Oct 18: A group from the Congress met with Sharad Pawar, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party, and Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena, to extend invitations for them to join the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is scheduled to visit Maharashtra in November.
The delegation included Mumbai Congress chairman Bhai Jagtap, party chiefs Vishwajit Kadam, Amar Rajurkar, Naseem Khan, and Sandeep Tambe in addition to former chief minister Ashok Chavan, former state chief Balasaheb Thorat, and party in-charge for Maharashtra HK Patil.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress is slated to travel 3,570 km in 150 days. It began on September 7 in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari and will end in Jammu and Kashmir. On November 7, it will enter Maharashtra.
The yatra, which is being led by Rahul Gandhi, has so far travelled through Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh.
The Maharashtra Congress delegation met Thackeray and Pawar at their respective homes, Matoshree and Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan, respectively. The Maha Vikas Aghadi includes the NCP and the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray.
