Daltonganj: Hot waters between NPU and MMCH set to cool down

Daltonganj, June 22: The hot waters between Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) and Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) at Pokhraha in Daltonganj are set to cool down soon.

It all began with the procedure for selecting and approving the list of names of the external examiners for the practical and viva exams of second-year MBBS students of the session 2019-20 in MMCH.

According to sources, NPU put its foot forward while the MMCH wanted to have its say more in the selection and approval of the names of the external examiners ostensibly for the reason that after all, it is MMCH to see and ensure that the practical and viva exams get over without any more delay and hence it wanted to have pliable examiners who do not refuse to be an external examiner in Daltonganj.

The dichotomy (conflict) ended up in the postponement of the practical and viva exams of second-year MBBS students slated for June 20. No new date has till date been announced by the NPU.

Sources said that NPU and the MMCH looked at things differently, each eyeing the other for overstepping the limit. Meanwhile, the exchange of some letters between the NPU and the MMCH further deepened the distrust. A letter to the MMCH principal from the university on June 18 created more furore.

The NPU letter had one line which seemed like an accusation against the principal of the MMCH. The principal did not take it lying down and shot back with his letter dated June 21, more fierce, fiery and forthwith rubbishing accusations levelled against him as ‘not true’, ‘false’ and ‘baseless’.

Lagatar24.com has a copy of both the letters.

The principal even shot back in writing that meeting with the pro-vice-chancellor (on this issue) is ‘not considered to be useful.’ He was asked to meet the pro-vice-chancellor within 2 days in the NPU letter dated June 18.

MMCH principal Dr Shailendra Kumar said, “There is a protocol for the exams-theory and practical and viva as set by the National Medical Commission and we are to abide by it in too.”

“When we place names of the external examiners, we do it with the hope that these external examiners will oblige us by coming over to our college and helping conduct and examine the practical and viva exams of MBBS students. Our college has no other meaning and motive beyond this,” he added.

Lagatar24.com spoke to the pro-vice-chancellor of NPU Dr Deep Narayan Yadav late last night on June 21 who said, “Right now I am out of the headquarter. I am attending a conclave of the vice-chancellors. I will be back soon.”

The pro-vice-chancellor further said, “Everything will be sorted out. The list of the external examiners is never an issue and it will be discussed and duly approved without any fuss.”

“We believe the practical and viva exams of second-year MBBS students of the session 2019 – 20 will be held soon and there will be no problem of any kind.” reiterated the pro-vice-chancellor.

Dr Yadav declined to make any comment as to who wrote what, repeating the practical and viva exams of second-year MBBS students will be held soon.
