Ranchi, Nov.17: Unhappy with denial of leave after his marriage in July this year, a CPI (Maoist) sub-zonal commander Vishnu Dayal Nagasia, left the organisation and today surrendered before the police in Lohardaga. His Maoist friend, having the rank of area commander in the organisation, Akash Nagasia, who was also missing his family members due to denial of leave from organisation high command, also followed his suit.

With this, the number of cases of extremists’ surrender rose to 26 in the district from 24.

Superintendent of police (SP) of Lohardaga district, Priyanka Meena, informed about the development saying sharing details of the surrendered Maoists against him more than 10 cases of waging war against the state have been registered at different police stations in Lohardaga.

Both the surrendered Maoists had joined the left-wing extremism when they were juvenile (below 15) following pressure of Ravindra Ganjhu squad of Maoists to give one member from each family for Naxal movement on villagers.

Vishnu, who was facing extreme poverty dropping his education after class V,  joined the extremist organisation after the death of his mother and father both while Akash, whose condition was almost the same after dropping his education after Class VIII, joined the extremist organisation after he lost his father. Both of them had joined the Maoist organisation in 2013.

Both are permanent residents of Peshrar police station area in the same district, and were allotted firearms in the organisation after two years of their association with it.  However, none of them were carrying firearms when they surrendered. They had escaped from the organisation after leaving their firearms.

“The State government’s plan, Nayi Disha, to bring misguided youth into the mainstream of society played a vital role in the return of the youths being used by Maoists. They will get all benefits under the government schemes. However, they will have to face the judicial process,” SP Meena said.
