Dhanbad, July 30: The court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Nirvey Prakash on Saturday rejected the bail petition of Ranchi-based news channel News11 Bharat head Arup Chatterjee in Dhanbad’s ex- District Board chairman Robin Gorai cheating case.

During the hearing, defence lawyer Shahnawaz pleaded that there is no evidence that cheating was done with former District Board chairman Robin Gorai. He had not deposited a single rupee in Care Vision Company of Arup Chatterjee. A false case was lodged after 10 years under police pressure to defame and disturb Chatterjee.

“So bail should be granted to Arup Chatterjee”, the defence lawyer said.

On July 24, 2022, ex-District Board chairman Robin Gorai had lodged an FIR in Kalubathan (Nirsa) police station alleging that Arup Chatterjee who ran Care Vision Group of Company took Rs 10 lakh on March 5, 2012, in the name of an attractive scheme. Arup Chatterjee, who was the director of the company, neither gave any receiving nor a deposit certificate. Whenever Gorai tried to contact him, Chatterjee avoided meeting him.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Haresh Ram objected to the bail petition and pleaded that Arup will influence the witness if released from jail.

After hearing the arguments of both parties, the court rejected the bail petition.

Though Arup Chatterjee has gotten bail from Jharkhand High Court in the extortion and blackmailing case of a coal trader Rakesh Ojha, four more cases of cheating in the name of Care Vision Company and taking a car from a showroom in Dhanbad have been lodged against him since July 20.
