Dhanbad court sentences rapist to life imprisonment

Dhanbad, Dec 13: The court of District and Session judge Sujit Kumar Singh on Tuesday sentenced a rape accused Sharafat Ansari, a resident of Govindpur, to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 in a one-and-half-year-old case.

The advocate of the complainant Gautam Kumar Pandey said that a total of seven witnesses were examined during the case trial.

The incident occurred on the night of March 7, 2021, and the FIR was lodged at the Govindpur police station on March 8 on the victim’s complaint. The police filed a charge sheet in court on December 8, 2021.

As per the FIR, the victim was sleeping in her house along with her two children when at around midnight, Sharafat Ansari raped her at knifepoint after threatening to kill both her children. Later, he was caught on the spot and handed over to the police.
