Ranchi, March 25: The Jharkhand High Court today directed the CBI to make the head of WhatApp India a party in judge Uttam Anand murder case.
The situation came after the division bench of the court comprising Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujeet Narayan Prasad came to know that the app company is not providing the chat details of a person associated with the case.
This apart, the court also directed the CBI to submit a status report of the probe being done in the case.
After directions hearing the case was deferred for a week.
On July 28 last year Judge Uttam Anand died after an unidentified auto rickshaw knocked him coming from the backside when he was on a morning walk outside Magistrate Colony near Randhir Verma Chowk in coal city Dhanbad.
The CCTV collected from the spot suggests that the driver of the vehicle intentionally hit the judge who was walking on the extreme left of the deserted road at the time of the incident. The CCTV footage shows that the vehicle changed lanes and hit the judge going extreme left.
The legal fraternity took strong exception to the incident and suspected it a case of an attack on the judicial system. The High Court and Supreme Court both took serious note of the matter. The High Court started monitoring the case. Sensing the gravity of the situation, the state police constituted an SIT.
Police swung into action and arrested the driver of the auto-rickshaw and seized his vehicle. The driver admitted the crime saying he was drunk. The matter was later given to the CBI for a probe.
However, nothing specific has come suggesting whether it was an accidental death or a pre-planned murder or something else.
