Maithon, June 11: A student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Maithon died due to drowning in Maithon Dam today morning. Vishal Varnwal (17 years), a student of class 11, a resident of Kumardhubi, was taking a bath in the dam at around 7 am on Sunday when he went into deep water and drowned.
Local people, boatmen and fishermen fished out the body from the dam after three hours of effort. Maithon police station took the body into custody and sent it to SNMMCH Dhanbad for postmortem. Vishal Varnwal was the only son of Kashi Varnwal. There are also two sisters in the house. The father runs a shop at the Dibudih checkpost on the Jharkhand-Bengal border.
It was told that Vishal Varnwal along with his friend Deepak Gupta had gone to Maithon Dam for a morning walk as usual. After walking, both of them started bathing in the dam near Kalipahari Chowk. During this Vishal went into deep water and started drowning. Deepak tried his best to save him, but could not succeed. In the end, Deepak somehow saved his life by swimming and informed the family about the incident. As soon as the information was received, the entire family including Vishal’s parents reached the dam. Maithon police also reached. Everyone together started searching in the dam. The body was retrieved after about three hours of effort.
