Dhanbad: POCSO court awards 20-year jail term to rapist

Dhanbad, Dec 6: A POCSO court in Dhanbad today sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 for raping a minor in Bagan Kala village under Tundi block around 35 km away from district headquarters.

 Moreover, the POCSO court assistant public prosecutor said that the court of special judge Prabhakar Singh hold the accused Ramdev Tudy guilty under Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act (POCSO). The judge had held him guilty yesterday (Monday) but pronounced the quantum of punishment today in the one year old case.

 The court delivered the judgement in one year and ten months hearing. Notably, four witnesses were cross-examined in the case.

 As per the FIR lodged by the father of the victim in Tundi police station of the district on  January 9, 2021, villagers were celebrating in the village on January 8, 2021. The victim was also watching the function along with her friends. In meantime, the accused took her away to farmland and raped her.

 After the investigation, police filed a charge sheet against Ramdev Tudu on February 23, 2021, and the court began a trial of the case on November 18, 2021.
