Dhanbad  March 5: The Lori (lullaby) songs of grandmothers’ era hogged the limelight in the competition held at Sindri College Sindri in Dhanbad when the girl students recited it in an engrossing tune.

The competition was organized at Sindri College, Sindri on the directive of the Government of India’s Arts and Cultural Department under Amrit Mahotsav. Over 30 female students of the institution recited the lullabies that they had heard in their childhood from their grandmothers.

History 5th-semester student Rubi Kumari got the first position, English 1st semester student Chandana Kumari stood second and political science 1st-semester student Shivani Jha got the 3rd in the competition.

The juries of the competition Prof Vishu Meghanani, Prof Sharmisth Acharya, Prof Archana Singh faced a tough situation to decide the winners and runners up as all participants impressed the audience almost equally with their performance.

This was the first time when a lullaby competition was organized in any educational institution of the coal belt.

Earlier, while inaugurating the Amrit Mahotsav competition, Sindri College  Principal Prof Nakul Prasad said, “Lori has had major significance in our lives since childhood.  It was recited by the grandmothers in every house to their children in villages. But now it is missing to some extent.”
“So, keeping its significance in the life of children and keeping in view the traditional importance, Sindri College Sindri would organize such competitions for promotion and attraction,” he added.

The coordinator of the programme Prof Anil Ashutosh said that competition was organized for the revival of Lori so the Principal of the institution did not allow film songs in the competition and fixed only lullabies.

During the event, Prof Anup Kumar Mehta also recited a poem to encourage the participants.

Prof Attaullah Mallick, Prof Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Prof Dharmendra Kumar Singh, Prof Rampravesh Prasad and Prof Surendra Kumar were on the organizing committee.
